1959 Mercedes Benz 220SE Ponton

The Ponton was the 1st series of cars produced after World War II by Daimler-Benz, and was the successor to the 220A. Produced on the W128 chassis, the 1959 Mercedes Benz 220SE Ponton was a six-cylinder available in a sedan, coupe or cabriolet body style. With design roots dating back to the 1953 Mercedes 180 sedan, the 1959 220SE Ponton featured a unitized body frame construction and fully impendent suspension. All models were fitted with a 2.2L straight-6 gasoline engine with aluminum head, overhead camshaft and Bosch mechanical fuel injection. Perhaps one of the most highly desired collectors cars among Mercedes enthusiasts, the limited production – only 1942 units throughout the production – makes this car even more sought-after.
