1948 Jaguar XK120

The 1948 Jaguar XK120 was introduced at the October 1948 London Motor Show. This luxury sports car had everything; an incredibly strong chassis, an engine any Grand Prix racer would have been proud to drive, and some of the most appealing styling. This was not only the first engine released by Jaguar; it was the worlds first mass-produced engine with twin overhead camshafts and hemispherical combustion chambers. An engine like this had only previously been seen in extremely expensive racing cars. Able to reach 120 miles per hour, the 1948 Jaguar was the fastest car of its day. With the intentions of making just a few hundred cars, the first production run of the Jaguar XK 120 offered aluminum-bodied models, but overwhelming demand convinced William Lyons to put the roadster into further production and also switch the bodies to pressed steel.

Looking to purchase a classic Jaguar?

If you are considering buying a Jaguar XK120 1948, the first 242 hand-built cars with aluminum bodies are highly sought after for their rarity. In general, the Jaguar XK120 was available in 2 convertible versions: a Roadster, which was designated OTS in America for Open Two-Seater, and a Drophead Coupe from 1953. A Fixed-Head Coupe was also available from 1951.
