In the early 50’s convertibles were the most popular. The best known among the convertibles was the Speedster. Released in 1954, the Speedster was an instant classic, particularly in the US market. Max Hoffman, the US importer of Porsches at the time, advised Ferdinand Porsche that a low-cost, open-top version would do well.
