The Ferrari California first appeared on the car market in 2008. Here it was mainly positioned as an entry-level model from Ferrari, the ideal experience for the 458. The California was also seen as a model that was actually intended as a Maserati.

Like many other Ferrari models, the Ferrari California has a V8, in this case a 4.3L V8. Which produces 460 hp. This is the same engine used in the F430. However, the displacement differs from the F430, 4297 cc for the California against 4308 cc for the F430. The cylinder capacity differs due to the use of a different type of crankshaft. The crankshaft of the California ensures that the engine fits better with the GT character of the California. The California also brought something Ferrari had never done before. The engine was mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. It was possible to choose between switching in an automatic mode or manually using the well-known paddle shifters.

In 2010 the California was upgraded. Ferrari introduced the “ENTIRE” system. This stands for “High Emotion, Low Emission.” The California was now fitted with a new ventilation system, fuel pump and air conditioning compressor. A start/stop system was also added.

The successor to the California came 4 years later. This was the California T. This new model brought with it a turbocharged engine, a 3.9L V8 and 650 horsepower. Not much has changed in terms of design, only the exhaust pipes were now next to each other instead of on top of each other. Production of the California ceased in 2017, being succeeded by the Portofino.
