The R107 series started in 1971 and would grow into the longest-running SL in Mercedes-Benz history: the last one did not roll off the production line until 1989. In those eighteen years, the R107 evolved from a sporty roadster into an icon, with a timeless design that still impresses today. From 1986 onwards, the 560 SL was the absolute top model of the range and was built exclusively for a select number of markets. Under the hood lies the largest engine ever fitted to an R107: a 5.6-liter fuel-injected V8, coupled to an automatic transmission. That combination delivers exactly what this SL is known for: effortless, majestic propulsion where the eight-cylinder never needs to be spurred on. This 1988 560 SL is equipped with climate control and cruise control, making it perfectly suited for long-distance driving as well. The bumpers have been converted to EU specifications, making the silhouette considerably sleeker than the original version.

The red paintwork suits this SL particularly well and is beautifully interrupted by the gold trim stripes running along the flanks, a detail that beautifully accentuates the elongated line from nose to trunk lid. The chrome trim, the wide sill trim strips, and the classic alloy wheels complete the look. A new soft top was installed in 2025, ensuring that the car looks just as well-maintained when closed in black as it does with the top down. Inside, the beige leather interior dominates, featuring characteristic ribbed seats, complemented by wood accents on the dashboard and center console, and with electric windows for convenience. The warm beige contrasting with the bright red is one of the most beloved combinations on this SL and gives the car a sunny, relaxed appearance. Top down, the V8 warming up, and the road ahead: this is this 560 SL at its best.
