Rare Mercedes-Benz 300b Adenauer Cabriolet for sale
When Mercedes-Benz unveiled the 300 at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1951, the brand demonstrated that it had firmly returned to the absolute top of the automotive world after the war. The large and stately 300 became Stuttgart’s flagship model and the favourite car of German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer, who used one for many years. This is how the model earned the nickname that is still widely used today: the Adenauer. Alongside the saloon, Mercedes-Benz introduced the Cabriolet D, a four-door convertible that was rare and exclusive from the very beginning. Only 642 cabriolets were built across all Adenauer versions, and just 146 examples of the 300 b series, introduced in 1954, left the factory. The 300 b featured increased power, larger brakes and quarter windows in the front doors. Under the long bonnet of this 1955 300 b lies a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine with an overhead camshaft, paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The maintenance history of this example is available and the original instruction manuals are also included with the car, a valuable addition for any enthusiast.
Black Mercedes-Benz 300b Adenauer Cabriolet for sale
The deep black paintwork perfectly suits the character of this Adenauer and emphasises the imposing, flowing lines of the long wings and powerful front end. The chrome grille with its characteristic Mercedes star on the bonnet, the chrome bumpers, auxiliary front lamps and chrome trim along the sides give the car an elegant and sophisticated appearance. The whitewall tyres with black hubcaps and chrome Mercedes stars complete the classic look. With the black soft top raised and its chrome landau bars, the car has the stately appearance of a coupé, while the hood cover with red piping provides a beautifully finished look with the roof lowered. The interior is a delight to step into, featuring red leather bench seats with attractive vertical stitching, matching red door panels and dark red carpeting, combined with a glossy wooden dashboard and wood trim around the windows. The large steering wheel with chrome horn ring and the classic radio complete the unmistakable 1950s atmosphere. The contrast between the sleek black bodywork and the warm red interior is spectacular and gives this convertible a timeless and luxurious appearance. Lower the roof, take four people on board and enjoy one of the most remarkable Mercedes-Benz models ever built.
