When Jaguar introduced the Mk2 in 1959, the Coventry-based manufacturer set a new standard for the sports saloon. Under the direction of Sir William Lyons, its successful predecessor was thoroughly refined, featuring larger windows, a wider rear track and an even more elegant appearance. The Mk2 combined luxury and comfort with performance that was virtually unrivalled at the time, becoming one of the most iconic British cars of the 1960s. The 3.8 was the absolute top-of-the-range version. Under the long bonnet of this 1966 example lies the legendary 3.8-litre XK six-cylinder engine with twin overhead camshafts and two SU carburettors, from the same engine family that also made the Jaguar E-Type famous. This is the matching numbers engine, paired with a manual gearbox with overdrive, making it ideal for relaxed motorway cruising. Disc brakes all around provide stopping performance that put Jaguar ahead of its time. This Mk2 was restored in the past; the restoration was completed in 2000 and extensively documented in a photo report. The car remains in neat condition and its maintenance history is available.
