Hans Glas GmbH, based in Dingolfing, Bavaria, originally started out manufacturing agricultural machinery and scooters but built a reputation in the 1960s for technically advanced automobiles—the brand was the first in the world to introduce a timing-belt-driven overhead camshaft. The Glas GT is the finest example of this: a German coupé with an Italian heart, as the bodywork was designed by Pietro Frua, who endowed the car with the elegant proportions of a miniature Maserati. The 1700 GT represents the pinnacle of the GT series; under the hood lies a 1.7-liter, four-cylinder overhead-cam engine producing around 100 hp, mated to a four-speed manual transmission. This setup delivers lively performance within a lightweight body and offers driving dynamics that enthusiasts still praise to this day. Its rarity is another notable feature: only 1,680 units of the 1700 GT were built, making this coupé a true connoisseur's car.
